An Order Number Belongs in the Right Place

Burgundy ribbon, blank notebook, brass ring and black leather arranged as a quiet symbol of adult communication.

An order number can help a store locate a purchase, but it does not need to appear everywhere you discuss the item. A public comment, a private enquiry and a conversation with another adult have different information needs. Before sharing a reference, decide what the recipient actually needs to answer your question and whether the channel is appropriate.

Distinguish a product question from an order question

If you are asking about a listing before purchase, a product link may be sufficient. An existing order reference is relevant when the question concerns that order. Keeping these two kinds of enquiry separate can reduce confusion and avoid sending account information that does not help with the answer. Begin with the simplest reference that identifies the subject.

For example, the Thousand Nights Ruler page identifies an item without revealing whether anyone has purchased it. The existing product image below is included for that purpose. A question about the listing’s measurements can begin with the link and the unclear detail, rather than a screenshot of a previous transaction.

Use the store’s own contact route

For an order-specific question, use the contact route supplied by the store and check the destination before sending information. A reply from an unfamiliar account should not be trusted merely because it mentions an order. If the request seems unexpected, return to the known store contact route to clarify what information is required.

An order number is not a substitute for every other detail a store may need, but neither does a request for help justify sharing everything. Never include a password, a one-time login code or a payment security code in ordinary correspondence. Ask for an explanation when a requested detail does not seem connected to the problem you are trying to resolve.

Review screenshots before attaching them

A screenshot may include more than the reference you intended to send. Look for names, addresses, browser tabs and unrelated messages. If the order number and a short explanation are enough, consider sending those instead. A cropped image should still be reviewed after export so that you know which version is actually being attached.

When discussing an item publicly, leave order-specific details out of the conversation. Describe the product question without identifying a private transaction. This does not guarantee anonymity, but it avoids spreading unnecessary information. If the issue requires access to a purchase record, move that part of the conversation to the appropriate private channel.

Do not share another person’s reference by habit

A purchase made by another adult belongs to their account history. Ask before passing its reference or correspondence along. You may be able to ask the general product question without involving their order at all. Being interested in the same object does not automatically grant access to each other’s purchase details.

Our communication guide discusses clear, voluntary choices. Applied to enquiries, that means sharing information deliberately rather than by habit. Identify the question, choose the right channel and provide the relevant reference. Keep unrelated personal details separate, and pause when you are unsure why additional information is being requested.
